AAMA Statement on Kavanaugh Vote

(Washington, DC) Mayor Oliver Gilbert III of Miami Gardens, FL, President of the African American Mayors Association (AAMA), issued the following statement on the Senate Judiciary vote on Brett Kavanaugh:

“The African American Mayors Association is the only organization exclusively representing African-American mayors in the United States. On behalf of 500 mayors serving millions of people across the country, we share our deep disappointment in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s decision to advance Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation to a full floor vote. After watching Judge Kavanaugh’s testimony, it is clear that he lacks the temperament to be a fair and unbiased jurist for the whole of a lifetime appointment.

“A week-long investigation is woefully inadequate in light of the seriousness of the allegations. These half measures serve as no more than an illusion of fairness. We call on all Senators to demand a full and thorough investigation of these troubling allegations, the length of which should be constrained by nothing beyond an honest quest for the most fair and complete evaluation of the facts.”
