Published on January 10, 2025
(Washington, D.C.) January 10, 2025 – President of the African American Mayors Association and Montgomery, AL Mayor Steven L. Reed released the following statement regarding the devastating fires in Los Angeles, CA:
“Our hearts are with the city of Los Angeles and its residents as they confront the devastating wildfires that have upended lives and destroyed communities. We extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to all those affected by this horrific tragedy.
On behalf of all our member mayors, we stand in support of fellow AAMA member, Mayor Karen Bass, as she leads with strength and resilience during this difficult time. Unfortunately some people have chosen to politicize this event and launch racially-motivated attacks on the Mayor. Politics has no place in this disaster. Families have lost precious homes and dear loved ones. AAMA remains laser-focused on supporting them and helping them in any way possible.
The African American Mayors Association remains committed to supporting Mayor Bass and the City of Los Angeles in any way we can as they navigate the path to recovery.”
