Mayors Institute Resources
Mayors Institute Presented by the Kaufman Foundation:
The African American Mayors Association, in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, presented a three-year first-of-its-kind racial and economic justice policy institute for member mayors. The Mayors Institute for Racial & Economic Justice Policy supported the ongoing training of Black mayors, with an emphasis on newly elected mayors. Each year, a cohort of 10-15 mayors representing communities from 500 people to more than 1 million utilized the training and information sessions and network connectivity to enhance their executive capacity for the benefit of their local residents.
Topics and sessions addressed the unique challenges faced by African American mayors such as crisis management, political communication, and the cultivation of equitable and inclusive economies. In addition, mayors learned from leading professionals in elected governance, including former mayors as well as academic experts and corporate leaders.
