2026 Future Leaders Summer Fellowship

The African American Mayors Association (AAMA) is excited to announce our 2026 Future Leaders Fellowship Program. This is a paid fellowship opportunity designed for passionate undergraduate students with an interest in policy, civic engagement, or local government.

Running from June 1 to July 24, 2026, this immersive experience takes place in Washington, D.C. The fellowship places fellows at the intersection of municipal leadership, national policy, and civic responsibility, offering direct exposure to how mayors govern, advocate, and respond to complex challenges facing cities across the nation. The program will be eight weeks of intensive public policy advocacy training, including an on-site visit to work within a member mayor’s policy office.

Beyond policy work, fellows will have unique opportunities to connect directly with AAMA mayors, national partners, and policy leaders through professional development workshops and networking sessions designed to build lasting career skills and relationships.

If you’re ready to make an impact and learn how local leadership drives national change, we encourage you to apply!

This fellowship opportunity is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

3.2 Cumulative GPA is required to apply.

Applications will open on Friday, March 27, 2026.

The final application deadline for the 2026 Future Leaders Fellowship is Friday, April 17, 2026, at 5:00 PM EST.

Please direct all questions to AAMA’s Chief of Staff, Landon Bailey, at Landon@ourmayors.org or via phone at 202-670-2018.
