Statement on Tragic Plane Collision Over Potomac River

(Washington, DC) – The African American Mayors Association (AAMA) extends its heartfelt prayers to the victims and their families following the tragic collision of an American Airlines jet, flying from Wichita, Kan., and a military helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday .

“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and are keeping all those affected in our thoughts and prayers. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, residents of the DMV, and the Wichita community during this difficult time. We thank God for the efforts and bravery of first responders, and send our support to fellow AAMA Mayor Muriel Bowser as she leads her city through this challenging time,” said AAMA President and Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed.
